If you are operating a business from your home, you need to think about the equipment you'll be using to run your business. Your computer, printer, scanner, fax, desk, switchboard, software, furnishing, etc. are all things you use in order to run your business.
If you are producing and delivering a product to customers, it is likely that your inventory is being stored somewhere in your home. Think about what would happen if it was stolen, or if there was a fire. Your inventory could cost thousands to replace, and your homeowner's insurance probably wouldn't replace any of it, leaving you without a way to continue your business.
But in the even of a burglary or fire, your homeowner's insurance may not cover these items, because they were for your business, and not personal use.
The best way to find out what's covered is to make a call to your insurance provider, and tell them what type of business you're running, what business equipment you've got, and find out how much it will cost to add a rider on to your current insurance policy. Normally, it isn't much at all, and it's far less expensive than being caught without a way to replace the things you need to run your business.
